Built Around the Airend
The screw compression element is the heart of any rotary screw compressor. CompAir keeps airend design and manufacture in-house, using CNC rotor grinding and online laser measurement to support precise rotor profiles, reliable operation and long-term efficiency.
Across the L-Series range, models are designed for continuous-duty operation, straightforward maintenance and efficient compressed air generation. Larger models include features such as large-surface aftercoolers, high-efficiency cooling systems and advanced compressor controls to help reduce running costs and protect the compressor over its working life.
High-Efficiency Motors and Smart Compressor Control
Energy is usually the largest lifetime cost of an air compressor, so correct specification and control matter.
Current CompAir L-Series models use high-efficiency motor technology, including IE4 motors on fixed-speed variants and permanent magnet IE5 motors on selected variable-speed models. Regulated speed models adjust output to match changing air demand, helping reduce off-load running where site demand varies.
The Delcos XL / Delcos XL SE controller gives operators clear access to compressor status, fault history and operating data. On selected models, iConn remote monitoring provides live performance data and service insights, helping maintenance teams identify issues earlier and plan servicing more effectively.
The CompAir L-Series Range: Which Model Is Right for Your Application?
The CompAir L-Series covers a wide range of oil-lubricated rotary screw air compressors, from compact workshop units through to high-output industrial systems for continuous-duty production environments.
As a guide, the range includes:
- 2.2–7.5 kW: Compact fixed-speed units for workshops, light manufacturing, automotive, woodworking and point-of-use applications. Available as stand-alone compressors or complete airstations with receiver and dryer options.
- 7–22 kW: A popular range for general engineering, automotive, packaging and smaller industrial sites. Fixed and regulated speed models are available, with receiver-mounted and integrated dryer options.
- 22–37 kW: Mid-range industrial compressors for sites with higher and more consistent air demand. Suitable for production environments where reliability, efficiency and correct sizing are critical.
- 45–55 kW: New-generation L-Series models available in fixed and regulated speed versions, with single and two-stage technology depending on specification. Designed for efficient compressed air supply in demanding industrial applications.
- 75 kW: High-output lubricated screw compressors available in fixed and regulated speed models, with air-cooled and water-cooled options depending on site requirements.
- 90–132 kW: Large industrial compressors for multi-shift production and high-volume air demand. The range includes fixed and regulated speed models, with selected FourCore two-stage variants for improved efficiency and flow performance.
- 160–250 kW: High-output single and two-stage lubricated screw compressors for the most demanding industrial applications. FourCore models combine two-stage efficiency with a compact footprint, helping large sites reduce energy use without increasing compressor room space.
Air Energy can assess your pressure, flow rate, duty cycle and site conditions to recommend the right CompAir L-Series model for your application.

FAQs
What is the CompAir L-Series?
The CompAir L-Series is a range of oil-lubricated screw compressors manufactured in Simmern, Germany. The range runs from small L-Series models from 2.2 kW to 7.5 kW, and large FourCore pages focused on 160 to 250 kW and covers both fixed speed and regulated speed models. The L-Series is widely used across UK industry in general manufacturing, automotive, food production, packaging and engineering applications. It is one of the most established screw compressor ranges in the market and is known for in-house airend manufacture, IE4 motor efficiency and the Delcos XL control system.
How do I know which L-Series model I need?
The right L-Series model depends on three things: the pressure your equipment requires (typically 7, 10 or 13 bar), the total volume of air your tools and processes need (measured in m³/min or CFM), and your duty cycle – whether demand is steady or varies throughout the day. Air Energy engineers will assess all three factors and recommend the correct model. Undersizing a compressor causes it to run continuously at full load which shortens its life, whereas oversizing wastes energy, so you need the right model to give you the best energy efficiency. Call us on 01992 238 339 for a free specification discussion.
What is the difference between fixed speed and regulated speed L-Series models?
A fixed speed L-Series compressor runs its motor at a constant speed and loads or unloads to meet demand. A regulated speed (L-RS) model uses a variable speed drive to continuously adjust motor speed to match exactly what the system demands, eliminating off-load energy waste. In most industrial applications where demand varies, regulated speed models save between 25% and 35% on compressor energy costs. Fixed speed models are better suited to applications with steady, consistent demand where the compressor runs at near-full load most of the time.
What is the CompAir Assure warranty?
Assure is CompAir’s warranty and service agreement programme. For L-Series compressors purchased through an authorised partner such as Air Energy, Assure provides extended warranty cover on the airend and key components for up to 44,000 hours or a defined number of years – whichever comes first. The programme requires scheduled servicing by an authorised engineer using genuine OEM parts. Air Energy manages Assure agreements and schedules service visits to keep your compressor in warranty compliance.
How often does a CompAir L-Series compressor need servicing?
Service intervals for L-Series compressors are based on running hours, not calendar months. For most models, the oil and filter service interval is every 2,000 to 4,000 hours depending on the model and operating conditions, with a major service at 8,000 hours. A compressor running two shifts a day reaches these intervals significantly faster than one running a single shift. Air Energy tracks running hours for contract customers and schedules service visits proactively – you do not need to monitor it yourself.
What pressure does the CompAir L-Series operate at?
L-Series compressors are available at working pressures of 7.5, 10 and 13 bar across the range, depending on the specific model. Most standard industrial applications run at 7 or 10 bar. 13 bar models are used where processes require higher delivery pressure, such as certain pneumatic testing, specialist tooling or high-pressure conveying applications. Selecting the correct pressure is important as running a compressor at a higher pressure than necessary increases energy consumption significantly.
Will Air Energy service a CompAir L-Series compressor we did not buy from them?
Yes. Air Energy services all CompAir L-Series compressors regardless of where they were originally purchased. As a factory-authorised CompAir service partner, our engineers are trained on all L-Series models and carry OEM service kits. We can take over a service contract from a previous provider, review the existing service history, and set up a planned maintenance schedule based on the compressor’s current running hours and condition, minimising downtime and maximising efficiency and reliability.
